      GS:
Non-compulsory;
Suitable for using German Product Safety Act to test;
Issued by independent third-party certified organization,which is authorized by Germany government;
Must pay annual fee;
Annual inspection must be carried out;
High credibility and marketing acceptance.

      CE:
Compulsory;
Suitable for using European standard to test;
Manufacture can be allowed to self-declare under the precondition of obtaining complete technical documentation (including test reports);
No factory inspection;
Low credibility and marketing acceptance.

Differences between GS and LVD:
Since 1997.1.1,CE regulated Low Voltage Detector(LVD),while GS already included all the requirements of Low Voltage Detector(LVD).Therefore,TUV will exceptionally issue CE certificate of the product`s LVD,that is,COC,free of charge.After 1997,LVD certificate has been included in GS certificate for TUV Rheinland.If a manufacture obtains GS certificate,it also obtains LVD certificate.
